In the past year, campaigns and calls to defund the police have proliferated in protest of the Minneapolis police murder of George Floyd. As Asha Ransby-Sporn, a Chicago-based movement leader, writes in her recent op-ed about these uprisings, “‘defund the police’ has always been shorthand for a two-part demand: It is just as much about investing in thriving communities as it is about divesting from policing.” This is why GenForward asks survey respondents not only about their thoughts on police funding, but also about funding for new entities meant to expand how we create public safety. Below, find our memo on young adult attitudes towards policing from GenForward Survey data over the past five years.
