Jenn Jackson

Jenn M. Jackson (they/them) (@jennmjackson) is a queer androgynous Black woman, an abolitionist, a lover of all Black people, and an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University in the Department of Political Science. They are the author of the book BLACK WOMEN TAUGHT US (2024) from Penguin Random House and the book POLICING BLACKNESS (forthcoming, 2026). Jackson was a long-time columnist at Teen Vogue, penning articles on Blackness, intersectionality, racism, politics and culture in the United States. They are now a columnist at Yes! Magazine focusing on gender and sexuality, Black Feminism, and politics. They have also been published at Al Jazeera, Washington Post, Marie Claire, Ebony Magazine, The Root, among many others.

Academically, Jackson’s research is in Black Politics with a focus on racial threat and trauma, gender and sexuality, Black Politics and Feminisms, and social movements. Jackson received their doctoral degree in Political Science at the University of Chicago in 2019. They are a native of Oakland, CA and will always represent their city.
